Financial Support

Under the new Chapter 33 (new 9/11 GI Bill) students may receive the following support:

Undergraduate support:

  • In-state students:  Veteran students eligible for full benefits under Chapter 33 will have all tuition and fees covered by the VA.   Students receiving partial benefits will be responsible for the remaining difference between their benefit and in-state tuition and fees.
  • Out-of-state students: The University will make an institutional investment to support veterans who are not residents of Pennsylvania and ineligible for the Yellow Ribbon program.

Graduate support:

The University will provide graduate support through the Yellow Ribbon program. Veteran students who are eligible for participation in the program will have their tuition and fees paid for by the University in partnership with the VA.  See list of graduate programs participating in the Yellow Ribbon program here.

Veterans Education Benefits

The Office of Veterans Services offers assistance to veterans and families of veterans who are eligible for veterans’ educational benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program and the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.  We can help you apply for benefits, provide information, and serve as a liaison between you and the VA Regional Processing Office.

  • Application Fee Waiver
Pitt waives the application fee for veterans. Just enter the code "VETR" in the fee waiver box under your name on the online application or attach a note to the printed application with the code on it.
  • Late Fees Waived
Concerned about accruing late fees as you wait for your education benefits to be processed? At Pitt, we understand that, through no fault of your own, you may be late in paying your tuition bill. Pitt will waive the late fees you would normally accrue if your tuition bill cannot be paid on time. In order for us to ensure that you do not pay late fees, please certify your benefits with our Veterans Services office prior to or immediately after you register for your courses.

Yellow Ribbon Program

All eligible undergraduate and graduate students will have all of their tuition and fees paid for by the University in partnership with the VA under the Yellow Ribbon Program. Out-of-state and graduate students who are entitled to the maximum benefit rate may receive this funding if the school in which they are enrolled participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. See the list of participating graduate schools and programs here.
